Girl dead, 3 injured after tree falls at Sydney school

An eight-year-old girl died after being struck by a falling tree branch in the playground of a primary school in Sydney's northwest, the New South Wales Police confirmed on Friday. A male teacher, a five-year-old kindergarten girl and her seven- year-old brother were also injured when the large branch fell on them at Pitt Town Public School at about 1:15 p.m. (local time) on Friday, police said. The eight-year-old girl was taken to Westmead Children's Hospital where she died shortly after being admitted. The three injured were also rushed to the hospital, two of them with serious injuries, police said. The seven-year-old boy sustained minor injuries. The teacher in his 50s has suffered serious head wounds while the five-year-old girl has injuries to her pelvis and arm, according to local media reports. Police investigations into the incident are underway.
