Gothenburg ramps up fight against radicalisation

The Swedish City of Gothenburg is taking new steps to fight violent extremism by hiring two coordinators to oversee city-wide efforts to prevent young people from joining terrorist groups like Daesh, Sveriges Radio reported.
One of those positions was filled today, with Zan Jankovski taking up the job.
In a statement, he said: "This question is becoming ever more important for the municipality and other authorities, but also for families and members of the public."
"The fact that this is an international matter is noticeable in our city, too. Trips to Syria and Iraq continue and there has been much focus on Daesh lately," he added.
"At the same time, it is important to remember that there are many types of extreme groups that young people can get lured into."
Jankovski and the other coordinator will be working within a unit headed by Sven-Johan Dahlstrand.
He told Radio Sweden that "the biggest challenge is to find a way to prevent people from going [to join violent groups abroad]. It’s been a problem in Gothenburg for many years and we need to find a way to stop that."
