Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras sent condolences to U.S. President Barack Obama on Tuesday over the Boston Marathon blast and expressed Greek peoples' condemnation of the attack. "We strongly condemn such horrific actions which target innocent citizens," said Samaras. "This assault is an attack on all of us, against the symbolism of the Marathon and the values it represents. Greece stands by your side," Greek Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos commented from London which is due to host a marathon race next weekend. The Marathon holds a special significance for Greece as its birthplace 25 centuries ago, when legendary soldier Pheidippides first ran the 42 km distance from the Marathon Tomb to Athens to announce Athenians' victory over invaders and died of exhaustion.
