Gunmen attack police station in Iraq

Gunmen and suicide bombers stormed a police station near Ramadi, Iraq, Monday, seizing control of some departments and taking hostages, police officials said. Information about possible casualties was not available, China's state-run news agency Xinhua reported. A provincial police official said a group of gunmen wearing military uniforms attacked the government facility in Baghdadi, west of Baghdad, after a suicide bomber detonated his explosives at the facility's entrance, Xinhua said. Another suicide bomber detonated his explosives inside the police station and took hostages, the police source said. "Mohanad Zbar Mutlag, mayor of the town, Lt. Col. Sadiq Aftan, chief of the police station, and 12 other officials and policemen were held hostage in the police station building," the source told Xinhua. Iraqi security forces blocked off the compound and were exchanging fire with the gunmen, police said. Some of the terrorists were positioned on the roof and firing at security personnel.
