Hamas, Islamic Jihad warn Israel over measures towards prisoners

 Hamas and Islamic Jihad movements warned Israel on Sunday over the outcomes of its measures against hundreds of Palestinian prisoners imprisoned in its jails.

The two movements said in a joint emailed press statement following a joint meeting of their leaders held in Gaza that the Israeli authorities should accept "the fair demands of the Palestinian prisoners in its jails."

"Endangering the prisoners' lives in the occupation's prisons is a severe violation that needs a unified factional position that puts an end to these violations that put the prisoners' lives into risk," said the joint statement.

The statement also referred to the prisoner Mohamed Allan, who has been going on a hunger strike for almost two months and held Israel fully responsible for his life.

Leaders of the two movements in Gaza, who met earlier on Sunday agreed to increase their cooperation in various fields and how to deal with the upcoming political changes in the region.

The two Islamic groups welcomed the individual attacks that Palestinian young men carry out against the Israeli army and the Israeli settlers in the West Bank and east Jerusalem, according to the statement.

They also agreed to keep their efforts for achieving an internal Palestinian unity and implement the reconciliation agreements signed with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and his Fatah Party.

Meanwhile, the two Islamic organizations, called on United Nations Relief and Work Agency (UNRWA) not to postpone the school year in 700 schools in the refugee camps in the Palestinian territories, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon.
