A war of words is going on between the Palestinian Authority and Hamas over charges Palestinians are working against the Hamas movement, a spokesman said. PA security forces spokesman Adnan Dmeiri described Hamas as being in a state of "hysteria," the Palestinian Ma'an News Agency reported Tuesday. A television channel run by Hamas recently dedicated a one-hour show to criticizing the Ma'an News Agency and its senior employees. The program also criticized two Egyptian journalists who it said were both working for Egyptian intelligence. The two were identified as the assistant editor-in-chief of al-Ahram and a Ma'an reporter based in Egypt. In late July, Hamas closed Ma'an's Gaza bureau after accusing the news agency of deliberately publishing "false news reports seeking to incite against Gaza."
