First Deputy of the Palestinian Legislative Council Ahmed Bahr warned of a human catastrophe in the besieged Gaza Strip, holding the Israeli occupation, the United States, and the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah responsible for the suffering of Gazans. During a mass sit-in organized by Hamas Movement in the Palestinian parliament, Bahr called for the Arab and European parliaments, human right organizations and the African-Arab summit in Kuwait to take immediate action to lift the blockade on the Palestinian enclave. He further accused the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah of taking part in the siege on Gaza after it imposed an additional tax on fuel used in operating the sole power plant in the strip.
