High court upholds self-proclaimed pastor's jail term for defaming Park

A Seoul appeals court on Thursday upheld a one-and-half-year prison term against a self-proclaimed pastor for defaming President Park Geun-hye by falsely accusing her of bribing late North Korean leader Kim Jong-il during a 2002 visit to Pyongyang. Cho Woong was found guilty of claiming that Park had handed over 50 billion won (US$46.6 million) to Kim during the visit in violation of the National Security Law that bans giving any monetary support to the communist country.
