Hu Chunhua was elected Communist Party chief of north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region on Monday. Hu was elected secretary of the Inner Mongolia Regional Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) at the first plenary session of the 9th CPC Inner Mongolia Regional Committee held in Hohhot, the region's capital city. Before being appointed to the current position in November 2009, he had been the governor of north China's Hebei Province. Hu, born in April 1963 and a native of Wufeng, Hubei Province, joined the CPC in 1983. He used to serve as deputy secretary of the Tibet Autonomous Regional Committee of the CPC and vice chairman of the Tibet Autonomous Regional government. He became the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China in 2006.
