Hundreds of people were evacuated overnight after a huge gas leak in south London, police and local media said, according to dpa.
Some 500 people were evacuated to four reception centres from several streets in the Penge area late Saturday, returning to their homes around 5 am (0500 GMT) on Sunday, reports said.
"Delighted but cold residents start returning to their homes in Penge," the police said on Twitter.
Ambulance and fire crews had been put on standby while engineers worked overnight to fix the leak, London's Evening Standard newspaper reported.
"The noise was overwhelming" from the initial leak, the police said.
