Head of operations of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for the Middle East Robert Mardini said the committee delivered humanitarian aid to 2.6 million people in Syria during the first three months of the current year, with 60% increase compared to the first quarter of 2015.
Al Arabiya news channel quoted Mardini as saying Wednesday that the organization carried out 14 relief operations in several areas, including Syria's flashpoint city of Aleppo, this year.
Mardini said ICRC officials paid nine visits last year to central prisons run by the Syrian regime, noting that there are more than 15,000 inmates in these prisons.
