Independent Elections Commission IEC President Abdul Ilah al Khatib on Tuesday received a report by a European Union observer mission on Jordan's parliamentary elections held in January which contained proposals to upgrade the electoral process. Commending the mission's "distinguished" efforts, Khatib said the IEC firmly believes in the important role of foreign observers as one of the guarantors of a free election, praising in particular the EU mission's "professionalism, objectivity and responsibility" throughout its stint in the Kingdom. Head of the EU mission David Martin handed the report, which included observations and recommendations, to Khatib who promised to study it and connect with the Europeans on their proposals, which he said the IEC shared some of them. The IEC has sent invitations to the European Union and other international organisations to monitor the 2013 parliamentary polls.
