If Iran receives 20 pct enriched uranium, "no need" to produce it

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Tuesday that if Iran receives 20 percent enriched uranium, there is "no need" to produce it. Asked by Xinhua reporter about Iran's earlier announcement that the Islamic republic may consider giving up the production of 20 percent enriched uranium, Ahmadinejad said Iran demanded, in the past, from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) be provided with 20 percent enriched uranium as the fuel for the production of radio medicines in the country, and Iran had said that it was ready to exchange 3.5 percent enriched uranium for the 20 percent one. However, "so far, there has been nobody to provide the (20 percent enriched uranium as) fuel" for the country, said Ahmadinejad here in a press conference. The production of 20 percent enriched uranium for fuel is " costly", he said, adding that "anytime they (the IAEA) provide the fuel (20 percent enriched uranium) for us, we do not need (to produce) the costly fuel."
