India: Pakistan committed 196 ceasefire violations in Kashmir

India said on Wednesday that Pakistan violated ceasefire 196 times along the borders of disputed Kashmir in the year 2013. Informing upper house of the parliament, India's defense minister AK Antony said that during the year 2012, Pakistani troops committed only 93 ceasefire violations along the Line of Control, the de facto border dividing Kashmir into Pakistani and Indian parts. The minister said the all violation of ceasefire were taken up with Pakistan military authorities through established mechanism of hotline messages, flag meetings and through talks between the respective Director General Military Operations of India and Pakistan. The clashes this year between the armies of two nuclear armed neighbors have been almost regularly reported along the 720-Km long Line of Control (LoC) and international Border (IB) dividing Kashmir. India and Pakistan have agreed in 2003 to observe a ceasefire along the international border and LoC in Kashmir. Kashmir is divided between India and Pakistan, both of which claim the region, but rule it in part. They have fought two of their three wars over Kashmir. According to human rights organization, the separatist gureillas have waged a war against the Indian rule since 1989 which has claimed lives of more than 70, 000 people.
