India has stepped up security at the United States Embassy and other American institutions here by deploying 150 police personnel to guard the venues around the clock, said Press Trust of India Thursday. The measures came after the U.S. has expressed concern about security of its missions and dependent institutions in the Indian capital, following retaliatory measures taken by New Delhi over the arrest of an Indian woman diplomat in New York by U.S. police last month. Indian government removed barricades outside the Embassy here, exposing the embassy compound and its annexing American school to public traffic. The U.S. has urged India to guarantee security of its diplomatic personnel and their families.
