Indian capital reels under massive garbage crisis

The Indian capital has been reeling under a massive garbage crisis, with sanitation workers escalating their strike over non-payment of their salaries for the last two months.

Striking workers have strewn garbage on the road in many parts of the national capital, thus creating stink in the air and triggering traffic jams.

Political parties have also jumped into the fray trying to capitalize on the situation, blaming each other for the mess.

While the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which controls three civic bodies in the Indian capital, has blamed Delhi's government for not releasing money to pay salaries to the sanitation workers.

The anti-corruption Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which is in power in the national capital, on the other hand, has accused the three civic bodies of mishandling finances.

The country's main opposition Congress party, which had ruled Delhi for 15 years before being decimated by AAP, has accused both the Delhi government and the central government for the mess.

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi Friday met striking sanitation workers and posed for photos, and he also blamed both the BJP and the AAP for the situation.

The BJP also hit back, saying it was the mismanagement of the Congress government when it was in power in the national capital.

However, the residents of Delhi are the victims of the crisis.
