The Indian community also voiced support for the Palestinian leadership in its bid to seek UN non-member status. Palestinian Ambassador Taha Abdulqader addressed the event at Al-Eslah Society headquarters in Manama, thanking Indian community for their stance in support of the Palestinian Cause. He paid tribute to the Republic of India for backing the Palestinian cause since the time of its charismatic leaders Mahatma Ghandi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Ghandi. "The Israeli crimes in Gaza won't deter us from continuing our national struggle to end the occupation and establish our independent and sovereign state with Al-Quds as its capital", the ambassador said. He said that the recent Israeli aggression against Gaza aimed at pressurizing the Palestinian leadership led by President Mahmoud Abbas not to seek UN non-member status. He also affirmed President Abbas' resolve to seek UN recognition as a non-member state despite Israeli threats and intimidation tactics. Indian Youth secretary-general Mohammed Ashraf and other key Indian figures also addressed the pro-Palestine rally voicing solidarity with the Palestinian people, in its struggle against the Israeli occupation, as well as its leadership in its bid to seek UN recognition.
