Indian Foreign Ministry: Sisi, Indian prime minister have distinguished relations

Indian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Vikas Swarup asserted that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi have distinguished relations, noting that his country is looking forward to holding a summit meeting between the two leaders soon to maintain their mutual interests.

The Indian spokesman remarks were made during his meeting with an African delegation of journalists, currently visiting here.

Swarup said Modi held talks with President Sisi on the fringe of India-Africa Summit held in 2015 and the two leaders held a second meeting on the fringe of UNGA meetings in New York.

He asserted that the two leaders shared viewpoints vis-a-vis a set of regional and international issues.

As per India's not being vividly involved in the efforts exerted to combat terrorism in the Middle East, the Indian spokesman said India has much suffered from terrorism in the 1980s, noting that India recognized well the impact of terrorism on all countries alike.

The spokesman also said India was keen to invite the delegation of African journalists as part of its efforts aimed at supporting the objectives of India-Africa Summit held in New Delhi last year and to bolster interaction between India and African countries.

He said India was keen to brief African countries on the reforms and positive developments that took place in India over the past few years.
