Indian goverment: Military coup not possible

The Indian government has said that a military coup is not possible in this country amid reported speculation of two elite army units moving closer to the national capital two years back without the knowledge of the Defense Ministry. "I have been in constant touch not only with top officials in the army, navy and air force but also with the jawans and those guarding our borders. I have full faith in the military forces. There isn't even the remotest chance of a military coup in the country," Indian Defense Minister A.K. Antony was quoted by the media as saying in the southern state of Kerala Sunday. The minister also refuted claims of a "distrust" between the Indian Army and the government in 2012. "The incident that happened in July 2012 was just a training exercise. It is a closed chapter. The Indian military has a track record of following such government policies verbatim," he said.
