Indonesia got the biggest votes as member of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) among other Asian representatives for 20122014, a press statement said here on Tuesday. The statement said that in a closed vote gathering at the UN General Assembly plenary session on Oct. 24 in New York, Indonesia seized 191 votes from 193 UN member states, more than India (189) and Japan (186). Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa said that the result has stressed the international acknowledgment on Indonesia' s important role in discussion and settlement of agendas on economy and social development regionally and globally. "This also reflects high appreciation and trust from international community on Indonesia's role in leadership, capability and commitment to bring progress in fortifying international policy in economy, social, education and health," said Natalegawa. Indonesia has been member of ECOSOC for 10 times and the last one was in 2007 2009.
