Indonesian president calls for ending Israeli occupation

Indonesian President Joko Widodo called on Tuesday for an immediate end of the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories.

Widodo made the statement during a meeting with Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah on the sidelines of a ceremony marking the 60th anniversary of the Asian-African conference.

"Palestine is the only Islamic state, which falls under occupation," Widodo said, adding that it is the time to end the this occupation.

He also reiterated his country's support for Palestine's endeavors to gain a seat at the UN Security Council.

Hamdallah, for his part, thanked the Indonesian president for his supportive stance towards the Palestinian issue at the international forums.

He also called for more cooperation between the two states in the trade and commercial fields.
