An Iranian ship loaded with humanitarian aids for the famine-hit people of Somalia left Iran's Southern port for the African nation on Friday.Somalia's acting ambassador to Iran Khalif Kadiye Muse said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is committed to helping the Somali people who were harshly affected by severe drought and famine. Muse said in response to the Somali president's call for the rescue of thousands of famine victims, the Somali embassy contacted the government of Iran, particularly the office of Iranian President Mohamoud Ahmadinejad and asked for help and assistance. He pointed out that Iran responded to that call and sent a ship carrying 5,000 tons of humanitarian assistance to the famine-stricken African nation. The diplomat called for the Somali people to keep strong and self-determined.
