Iran is manufacturing an advanced fighter jet to be used mainly for training purposes, an Iranian air force commander said. By producing its own fighter jets, Iran will no longer be dependent on purchasing planes from abroad, the semi-official Fars news agency quoted Brig. Gen. Aziz Nasirzadeh as saying Wednesday. The new jet can fly at low altitude and avoid radar detection, the Mehr News Agency said, adding it also has the ability to carry advanced weapons and take off and land on short runways. "We have taken very good measures in producing aircraft ammunition, long-range ammunition and smart missiles," he said. Nasirzadeh said Iran was also designing and manufacturing new air-to-air missiles and air-to-ground missiles which would undergo tests in March 2014, Mehr said.
