Iran raps US double-standard policy towards terrorism

An Iranian deputy foreign minister blasted Washington for raising baseless allegations against Tehran, and said the US which supports terrorist groups with financial, political and arms aids cannot accuse others of advocating terrorism. “The Islamic Republic of Iran, as a victim of terrorism, is a forerunner of the real fight against this ominous phenomenon,” Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian said on Tuesday. “This is while the US, following a double-standard policy, uses terrorism as an instrument to further its interests in the region,” he added. Amir Abdollahian further rejected the allegations that the Lebanese Resistance Movement Hezbollah is a terrorist group, and said the movement succeeded in bringing the Israeli regime to its knees during the 33-day war in 2006. “The Lebanese Hezbollah is strongly fighting terrorism in support of the country’s security and stability,” the Iranian official added. On Monday, Syrian Interior Minister Mohammad al-Shaar said that Syria is confronting an international systemized terrorism at the hands of terrorist groups, plotted by US-backed Zionism and their tools in the region. Earlier this month, Syrian opposition activist Safvan Akash acknowledged that the US will never stop its support for the militant groups fighting against the Damascus government in Syria. Speaking to FNA, Akash, a member of the Executive Office of the Syrian Opposition Coordinating Council, pointed to the US military support for militant groups fighting against President Bashar Al-Assad, and said, “Washington will never cease its supports for the militant groups in Syria.” Syria has been grappled with a deadly turmoil since March 2011. The foreign-sponsored militancy in the Arab country has so far killed over 100,000 people and displaced millions of others.
