Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad played down the effectiveness of pressures on Iran, and stressed that the country will continue making progress in different fields despite enemies' pressures. Addressing a ceremony to inaugurate the construction project of a desalination plant in Iran's Southern port city of Bandar Abbas on Thursday, President Ahmadinejad underlined Iranian nation's resolve to continue progress. The enemies assumed that they can prevent the Iranian nation from achieving economic development through exerting pressures but they are wrong, Ahmadinejad said. The Islamic Republic of Iran has attained nuclear power and sent satellites into orbit and is conquering peaks of scientific advancements in the world and there is no doubt that they can proceed with development projects with ease, he said. President Ahmadinejad inaugurated several development projects in Bandar Abbas on Thursday. He opened the construction project of a desalination plant in Bandar. After being operational, the plant will change the Persian Gulf's water into fresh waters for drinking, industrial and agricultural purposes to be used by local residents. It will also provide fresh water for residents of two other provinces, including the neighboring Southeastern province of Kerman and the Yazd Province in Central Iran. The desalination plant is located some 30 km to the West of Bandar Abbas.
