Iran, UAE agree to turn over new leaf in relations

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and visiting UAE counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nuhayan affirmed Thursday the need to open a new chapter in their bilateral relations. Iranian news agency (IRNA), said the two sides discussed developments in the region, particularly in Syria, Afghanistan, and the importance of consultation and cooperation on the regional level. Zarif said his country attaches importance to its bilateral ties with the neighbors, especially the friendly and brotherly country of United Arab Emirates. During the meeting Zarif added that Iran believes that the regional states share the region and peace and stability. "The more ways paved for progress, economic development, the more welfare, economic development, peace and stability will increase," Zarif said. He further noted, "We consider any regional progress our success and regard any ant-regional threats as against us." For his part, Sheikh Abdullah said that there are numerous opportunities for mutual cooperation. "We were always Iran's partner but today, we want to be a stronger partner than before." The UAE minister noted that his country believes that any regional state's security, peace and progress will benefit the entire region. He acknowledged the efforts made to reach an agreement with Group 5+1 in Geneva. Earlier, Sheikh Abdullah arrived in the Iranian capital in official visit.
