Iran's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Mohammad Khazayee called on the UN to take serious action to halt Israeli aggressions against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.Khazayee made the remarks in separate meetings with the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and President of the UN Security Council Vitaly Churkin on Friday."I asked Mr. Ban and Mr. Churkin to act a practically and seriously aim at urging the Zionist regime to pay heed to its international commitments and to response to the UNSC demands."The Iranian envoy also discussed Gaza blockade, Israeli settlements in Gaza and the situation of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.Representatives of the Arab League and the Arab group at the United Nations and the Palestinian representative at the UN were also present in the meetings.Earlier this month, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehman-Parast strongly condemned the recent Israeli forces' clashes with Palestinian worshippers near the al-Aqsa Mosque in East al-Quds (Jerusalem) during which a number of worshippers were injured.Witnesses said Israeli forces fired stun grenades near the mosque to disperse Palestinian worshippers who were protesting against the recent desecration of the Muslims holy book, the Quran, by an Israeli soldier. Palestinians retaliated by hurling rocks and firebombs. In reaction to the latest Israeli crimes, the Iranian foreign ministry spokesman strongly condemned the attack, and urged the regional and international organizations, specially human rights bodies, "to show serious reaction to the aggressive measures and growing desecration of Islamic sanctities by the Zionists".He added that the international community's weak reaction will embolden the regime to conduct further criminal acts.
