Iranian FM meets high ranking Jordanian officials

Visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met on Tuesday with Jordanian Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour and Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh, part of the top Iranian diplomat's two-day visit. Zarif, due to fly to Syria following his stop in Amman, discussed with the Jordanian premier ties between Tehran and Amman, and ways of enhancing cooperation in various fields, particularly in economic spheres. Ensour said King Abdullah II was one of the first leaders who emphasized the importance of a political solution to the ongoing crisis in Syria to stop the bloodshed and preserve territorial unity. The prime minister underlined challenges and burdens borne by Jordan as a result of hosting waves of refugees and pressures they put on the Kingdom's already-limited resources. The Iranian minister pointed out that King Abdullah II plays an important role in promoting security and stability in the region, commending Jordan as voice of moderation in the region. Zarif also discussed with Judeh the Syrian crisis and efforts to convene the Geneva 2 conference to nail down a political solution to the crisis. Judeh renewed Jordan's call for a halt to violence and bloodshed, stressing the importance of a comprehensive political transition. They also tackled current Palestinian-Israeli negotiations and highlighted the need for supporting all efforts in this regard.
