Iranian warships berth in Omani port

Iran's 34th fleet of warships berthed in the Omani port of Muscat on Monday after nearly two months of patrolling mission to protect the country's ships and interests in the international waters, FARS News quoted the fleet Commander Captain Mostafa Tajeddini as saying.

Iran's 34th fleet, consists of Alborz destroyer and Bushehr helicopter-carrier warship, left the country on April 8 and started its mission in the Indian Ocean, the Sea of Oman and the Gulf of Aden.

He further added that the Iranian naval forces fought with pirates, preserved the country's interests and escorted the Iranian oil tankers and merchant vessels during the two-month mission.

The Iranian Navy has been conducting anti-piracy patrols in the Gulf of Aden since November 2008, when Somali raiders hijacked the Iranian-chartered cargo ship, MV Delight, off the coast of Yemen.
