In a letter issued on Wednesday, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili said that Tehran welcomes talks with the 5+1 group (the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China, and Germany). In the letter which was sent to European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, Jalili emphasized the need to hold constructive and serious dialogue without any preconditions. Jalili also commented on his previous letter to Ashton, who represents the major powers in nuclear negotiations with Tehran, and said that the adoption of a positive approach toward Iran’ nuclear program can be a step forward. Ashton also sent a letter to Jalili on March 6 and offered to resume talks with the Islamic Republic.
