Iraq calls for inviting Iran to Geneva II

The Iraqi government called Tuesday for inviting Iran to the Geneva II conference for Syria, while Tehran rejected preconditions for attending the January 22 meeting."We agreed in Iraq to support the invitation of all parties involved in the Syrian crisis, including Iran," Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari said in a joint press conference with Iranian his counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif.Zebari said the Iraqi government has been emphasizing that all parties related to the Syrian crisis must be involved in the Geneva II in order to ensure its success.Meanwhile, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki discussed with Zarif developments of the Syrian crisis and ways to find a political solution for the bloody conflict.All parties must "live up to their responsibilities in finding a peaceful solution to the deteriorating situation in Syria," Al-Maliki said in a statement.He noted that the conflict required engagement of all parties to come up with a solution to the crisis.For his part, Zarif said all efforts must be exerted to prevent Syria from becoming a haven for for radicalism and terrorism.
