Iraqi ambassador to Iran Mohammad Majid Sheikh hailed the Islamic Republic of Iran for its assistance to Iraqi nation and fighters during the rule of the former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.Ambassador Majid Sheikh made the remarks in a ceremony marking the 29th anniversary of the establishment of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq (ISCI) previously known as the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq. He also thanked Iran for helping ISCI during the dictatorship of Saddam Hussein. Majid Sheikh enumerated the objectives of ISCI as freedom, independence and justice while strongly rejecting any domineering role of foreigners in Iraq. ISCI holds 20 seats out of a total 325 seats in Iraqi parliament. An Iranian lawmaker Hussein Sheikholeslam for his part said that the Iraqi citizens have valuable characteristics which can benefit from them in Islamic uprisings.
