ISIL claims responsibility for recent bomb attack in Beirut

The Al-Qaeda-linked Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) claimed responsibility for the Thursday car bomb attack in the Lebanese’ capital city of Beirut. A powerful car bomb explosion hit Haret Hreik neighborhood in South Beirut on Thursday killing several people and injuring dozens. The neighborhood is the bastion of Lebanon’s resistance movement, Hezbollah, press tv reported. On Saturday, the ISIL said in a statement posted online that it had penetrated the "security system" of the resistance movement to "crush its stronghold". The Lebanese capital has been repeatedly hit by similar terrorist attacks in recent months, which have left a large number of casualties. The army said on Saturday that a DNA test on the remains of the bomber showed that a young man from Northern Lebanon was responsible for the attack. "The DNA test results on the remains of a suicide attacker found in the car used in the bomb attack...confirm they belong to the youth, Qutaiba al-Satem," the army said, adding, "Investigations are ongoing by the relevant judicial authorities to uncover the full details of the event." The United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon condemned the deadly attack, calling on all Lebanese parties to show restraint and urging the Lebanese people to work together to help foil acts of terrorism.
