Islamic Jihad leader Sheikh Nafeth Azzam on Monday urged President Mahmoud Abbas to give up on negotiations with Israel. Addressing relatives of detainees at a demonstration outside Red Crescent headquarters in Gaza City, Azzam said there was "no point" in a letter Abbas is sending Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. "We tell the president that there is no point in sending a letter to the enemy," Azzam said. "We hope that the president will be clear about his positions and give up on the approach of the negotiations with Israel," he added. Abbas said Sunday he is writing Netanyahu a letter to try and break the deadlock in the peace process. The president's adviser Nimir Hammad said Wednesday that a delegation would deliver the long-awaited missive this week.
