A senior Iranian MP says Iran is capable of putting Israel's security at risk in response to any possible military attacks by the US and Israel, Press TV reports. “Undoubtedly, any attack on the Islamic Republic will be equal to a very serious security threat for the Zionist regime,” National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Chairman Alaeddin Boroujerdi told Press TV on Monday. “They will definitely realize the consequences of such threats. Today, we are much more powerful than before in terms of military capabilities… If Israel makes any mistake, it will face serious losses,” Boroujerdi added. He made the remarks in response to US President Barack Obama’s speech at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) meeting in Washington on Sunday night. Repeating the anti-Iran rhetoric, the US president accused Tehran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear program and emphasized the United States’ support for Israel, especially in regard to alleged threats from the Islamic Republic of Iran. “I have said that when it comes to preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, I will take no options off the table, and I mean what I say,” Obama said, adding, “A nuclear armed Iran is completely counter to Israel’s security interests. But it is also counter to national security interest of the United States.” Iran argues that as a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency, it has the right to develop and acquire nuclear technology meant for peaceful purposes.
