No injuries or damage were reported on the Israeli side."Israel is monitoring the border and taking necessary steps to respond to developments in the region, he added. It is the second incident of its kind in the past 24 hours. On Saturday, an Israeli military vehicle was hit by shots fired from Syria. Israeli forces returned fire and registered a direct hit on their target.Stray gunfire between the forces of President Bashar Assad and insurgents has strayed across the Golan border several times over the last year.Israeli soldiers shot across the ceasefire line in February, wounding a man who approached the boundary fence. In November, Israeli troops fired artillery shells into Syria in response to a number of incidents in which mortar shells and bullets hit Israeli military and civil installations on the Golan Heights.Israel captured the Golan Heights from Syria in a 1967 war and later annexed it in a move never recognized internationally.Technically, Syria and Israel are still at war, but the Golan, a strategic plateau, has been largely quiet for decades.
