Israeli forces attacked a target in Syria alongside its boarder with Lebanon, local media reports cited well-placed security sources Wednesday. No official comment was made by the Israeli Defense Forces or by any Israeli official on this attack. Israel has voiced concerns over chemical weapons leaking from Syria into the hands of Hezbollah militants in Lebanon. "There was a definite hit," a well-placed source said in a report cited by major Israeli news outlets. The report of the attack follows earlier reports in the Lebanese media about Israeli air force fighter jets flying over south Lebanon on Tuesday night for several hours. According to the Lebanese news agencies, citing an official notification by the Lebanese army, four fighter jets penetrated Lebanon's air space near Naquora in southern Lebanon at 9 p.m. ( 1900 GMT) and left at 2 a.m. (0000 GMT) after performing several maneuvers. It is not the first time the Israeli Air Force crosses over to the Lebanese airspace. Another report from the Lebanese media claims that such an event occurred on Saturday.
