
The Delegation of the Italian Senate Committee for Foreign Affairs under Pier Ferdinando Casini left Cairo Wednesday, wrapping up an official visit during which they met with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
During the meeting, Casini lauded strong Egyptian-Italian relations and Egypt's strenuous efforts to restore security and stability, asserting Egypt's importance as player in the Middle East region.
Casini congratulated Sisi on the recent discovery of a giant gas field in the Mediterranean Sea.
Casini also thanked Sisi for the Egyptian government's restoration of the building of the Italian Consulate in Cairo, damaged in a car-bomb attack.
He extolled the Egyptian-Italian cooperation in combating terror, underlining the importance of boosting cooperation in various domains, especially tourism.
The delegation held a meeting with Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab and Justice Minister Ahmed El Zend. The meeting was attended by Italian Ambassador in Egypt Maurizio Massari.
