Some 1,230 migrants were picked up and one body was recovered in Sunday rescue operations on the central Mediterranean, the Italian Coastguard said in a statement.
There were nine separate interventions, involving the Italian Coastguard and Navy, the Doctors Without Borders (MSF) medical charity and the Spanish Navy, the statement said.
The MSF vessel picked up the dead migrant along with 133 survivors from a dinghy, according to the German News Agency (dpa).
Authorities have rescued 1,348 migrants in the Mediterranean Sea from the Strait of Sicily in eleven separate operations, the operational center of the Italian Coast Guard in Rome announced Saturday.
