Jakarta prepares for Clinton's arrival

Security was increased in Jakarta for a visit by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to discuss a 5-year-old U.S.-Indonesia partnership, officials said. A Jakarta Police spokesman said 1,500 officers would be on duty for Clinton's arrival Monday, the Jakarta Post reported. Clinton traveled to Jakarta to discuss the U.S.-Indonesia Comprehensive Partnership, which began in 2007, the secretary's office said in a release. Clinton also visited Indonesia in 2009 on her first trip as the top U.S. diplomat, the release said. The U.S. secretary of state and Indonesian foreign minister are co-leaders of a commission formed to ensure momentum generated by the partnership is sustained, the State Department said. The Comprehensive Partnership includes issues and actions on regional and global cooperation; economy; trade and investment; education; development; climate, environment and energy; defense and security; and rule of law and law enforcement, the release said. Clinton was scheduled to spend a night in Jakarta, then visit Beijing Tuesday and Wednesday and Dili, Timor Leste, on Thursday.
