
The Japanese Foreign Ministry has summoned the Egyptian Ambassador in Tokyo to renew calls for a peaceful solution to the conflict in Egypt. The head of the ministry’s Middle East and African affairs bureau, Makio Miyagawa, met ambassador Hisham El-Zimaty on Monday night. Miyagawa said Japan has been pressing Egyptian authorities to exercise restraint and avoid violence. He said the deaths are unacceptable. Miyagawa asked the Egyptian government to make every effort to secure the safety of Japanese nationals remaining in the country. El-Zimaty said his nation’s interim government will hold talks with all political forces that renounce violence and will cooperate with friendly nations. The ambassador said his country’s leaders will do their best to ensure the safety of Japanese people in Egypt.
