Japan, China to resume security talks

Japanese government officials said they are likely to resume bilateral security talks with Chinese counterparts in Tokyo late next month, Japan's NHK World reported.
The 2 countries will hold the Japan-China Security Dialogue. Foreign and defense officials will attend for the first time in 4 years.
They held their last round of talks in January, 2011. Soon after, bilateral relations worsened.
But the foreign ministers of both countries agreed last November to restart dialogue as soon as possible.
China has shown concern that the government of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is trying to reinterpret its Constitution that will enable the country to exercise its right to collective self-defense.
Japanese officials are expected to explain to China that Japan is more willing to contribute to international peace and stability than before.
They are also likely to call on China to increase its transparency in defense budgets and military power as it is expanding its defense expenditure.
