Japan expresses concern at Egypt violence

Japan voiced concern on Monday over clashes in Egypt, calling on all relevant parties to desist from acts of violence and behave with the greatest extent of self-restraint and responsibility. "Japan is deeply concerned about the casualties resulting from large-scale demonstrations that have been occurring along with the one-year anniversary of the inauguration of Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi," Foreign Ministry Press Secretary Yutaka Yokoi said in a statement. "Japan expects that all political forces will participate in the parliamentary process and that in response to the calls of President Morsi, national dialogue will be realized promptly so that the political process can move forward in a peaceful and smooth manner," Yokoi said, pledging Japan's continued support.
