Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida hopes to meet with Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov at a forthcoming session of the U.N. General Assembly in New York. Kishida intends to discuss with Lavrov an ongoing crisis in Syria in particular. Diplomatic sources in Tokyo told Itar-Tass that this issue is being studied. Japan would also like to discuss the specific content of a 2+2 meeting between the heads of the diplomatic and defense agencies of the two countries due in Tokyo in November. These consultations will be held for the first time. It is not ruled out that Russia and Japan will continue the dialogue over the problem of a peace treaty at a meeting in New York.
