Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will visit Russia at the end of April, a well-informed diplomatic source told Itar-Tass on Monday. “The Japanese prime minister may visit Russia on April 28 or on April 29. The final date of the visit will be specified later,” the source said. This will be the first visit by the Japanese prime minister in the last 10 years. Local observers say Japan hopes to resume an active dialogue with Russia on the South Kurile territorial problem and the signing of the peace treaty. Japan also hopes to discuss several economic projects, including in the energy sector, observers say.
