Moscow is convinced that the representative of the Jaysh al-Islam group should not be part of the delegation at Syrian peace talks in Geneva, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said.
"We have always said that for us this [Jaysh al-Islam] is a terrorist organization," the high-ranking diplomat said. "We consider that they should not be among the delegation members", Tass News Agency reported on Monday.
He added that it is up to UN Syria envoy Staffan de Mistura to take the decision. In Gatilov's words, Russia hopes that meetings in Geneva will allow to launch a political process in Syria. "We hope that the process will start, and current meetings will allow to start moving toward political settlement," he said.
