Jordanian Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour on Tuesday met with Canadian Minister of Public Safety Vic Toews, currently on a visit to Amman, to discuss prospects for closer economic and trade ties between Jordan and Canada, official news agency Petra reported. The duo also reviewed the Syrian crisis and its humanitarian regional repercussion, with Ensour briefing the Canadian official on Jordan’s efforts and services offered to the Syrian refugees. Ensour highlighted the economic burden it bears due to the situation of the refugees, a situation, he says, that puts “enormous pressure on the kingdom’s already meagre resources,” according to Petra. A record number of Syrians fleeing their country in recent weeks means that Jordan currently hosts hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees.
