Jordan interior minister discusses Syria with US delegation

Minister of the Interior Hussein Hazza Majali discussed on Thursday with a visiting U.S. delegation ways to boost ties between the two countries and the latest developments in the region, mainly the security, political, economic and humanitarian challenges facing the Kingdom as a result of the Syrian crisis.During the meeting with Head of the Subcommittee on Interior, Environment and Defense Affairs at the U.S. Congress Moran James and his accompanying delegation, Majali spoke about the importance of a stronger partnership between the two countries in political and economic fields and the fight against terrorism and crime.The minister said Jordan was one of the countries most hit by the Syrian crisis as a result of the large numbers of cross-border refugees , asserting the pressure such refugees have on the Kingdom’s limited resources.Further, the Minister stressed the need to reach a comprehensive political solution to the Syrian crisis to stop the bloodshed of the Syrian people and preserve the territorial unity of Syria. James, in turn, stressed the importance of Jordan’s role in addressing many of the issues and challenges facing the region and the wise policies pursued by the Jordanian leadership to overcome challenges and to address the Syrian crisis.He noted the need to help Jordan in dealing with the Syrian crisis and supporting the refugees in spite of the difficult economic conditions faced by the Kingdom.
