Jordan king holds talks with Singaporean PM

His Majesty King Abdullah II met in Singapore on Tuesday with Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to discuss ways to boost bilateral ties, mainly in the economic field, the latest developments in the Middle East, efforts to achieve peace in the region as well as the crisis in Syria.The King and the Singaporean prime minister stressed the need to activate agreements signed between the two countries and build on them to further promote bilateral cooperation.In this context, the King said Jordan’s economy provides a secure and stable investment environment in various fields, stressing that investors can benefit from the available investmentopportunities in the energy, water, transport, tourism, services, education and pharmaceutical fields in addition to the Kingdom’s strategic location, which serves as a gateway to regional markets.The Singaporean prime minister, on his part, said his country looks forward to boosting relations with Jordan, mainly in the economic field and benefiting from Jordan’s attractive investment location.Singapore, he added, looks forward to improving its partnership with Jordan in various fields.Jordan, he said, sets a model in the Middle East in its quest to enhance comprehensive development.On efforts to achieve peace between the Palestinians and Israelis, the King said the establishment of an independent and viable Palestinian state as per the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital and based on the two-state solution and the Arab Peace Initiative, is a top strategic Jordanian interest as well as a regional and international interest.On the crisis in Syria, His Majesty reiterated Jordan’s support to a comprehensive political solution that ends the suffering of the Syrian people and preserves the country’s unity. The King pointed to the increasing burden being placed on Jordan as a result of hosting the largest number of Syrian refugees.The Singaporean prime minister praised King Abdullah’s efforts to bring about peace and stability in the Middle East and provide services to the Syrian refugees in the Kingdom.
