Jordan king, US lawmakers discuss Middle East, bilateral ties

Jordanian King Abdullah II received on Sunday Speaker of the US House of Representatives John Boehner and his accompanying delegation to discuss Middle East issues, Petra reported.
The meeting, which was attended by Queen Rania al Abdullah and Prince Faisal bin al Hussein, dealt with Jordanian-US ties and ways to enhance them, especially in political and economic fields, in addition to regional and international developments, top of which are efforts to combat terrorism and extremist ideologies and achieve peace in the region.
King Abdullah said efforts should be intensified to fend off the threat of terrorism and terrorist organizations, which seek to undermine global security and stability.
He said the Palestinian issue is at the core of the conflict in the region, and called for intensifying international endeavors to revive peace negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis, based on the two-state solution and the international legitimacy resolutions.
He also emphasized the need to find a comprehensive political solution to the Syrian crisis that ends the cycle of violence there and maintain Syria's territory and people, and also underlined the importance of boosting security and stability in Iraq, Yemen and Libya.
Boehner and other US lawmakers said they valued efforts exerted by Jordan in addressing various regional challenges, especially the economy, asserting the Jordanian vital role in the quest to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East.
